“Of all the attributes I would wish my children, one rises well above the rest, the development of a strong character. Discipline ranks high, compassion as well, patience, dependability and drive all are very important. In my experience each of these are attributes of an individual possessing a good or strong character. I have witnessed the significant contribution the martial arts have made with regard to the physical and emotional development of my two sons. They have been exceptionally fortunate to have been associated with Bobby Lawrence Karate and Mr. Ken Ruano. A man more often than not resembles those he associates with and this applies to an even greater degree in youth. Both of my sons began their training at an early age with Mister Ruano and they have excelled in multiple areas of their lives ever since. Now approaching the high school graduation I can reflect as to the countless times over the years I have heard their teaches say, “I wish there were more young men who demonstrated the respect for others your boys do. I don’t know what you and your wife have done, but you’ve certainly done something right.”
I have watched my boys excel in baseball, football and track among their many athletic endeavors. I have observed their popularity and abundance of healthy relationships. Without exaggeration I know what has contributed to their success and I am insistent that the martial arts and the guidance of quality people like Ken Ruano have played a significant part in the development of the character of these two fine young men.
Thank you Ken, it’s friends like you that make all the difference.

Mister R: We just wanted to take a moment to let you know, personally, how grateful we are to have you and your amazing Bobby Lawrence Karate program in our lives. As you may recall, we enrolled our seven-year old son with the expectation that he would become more physically active, while cutting back, at least a little, on mindless afternoon TV shows and video games. We had trouble getting his cooperation without having to resort to bullying and threats. His also lacked confidence in trying new things and we hoped that the continual small successes in Karate, you promised, might help him be more open to new experiences. Well, we got the desired results and so much more. After about one month, we started to see a change in the genuine respect he showed to us and his three sisters. He memorized the four creeds and immediately developed a greater commitment to eating more healthfully, exercising more often and to keeping his mind healthy by reading more and minimizing the video games to three days a week for a half hour per day. He explained to us this is what is required if he wants to maintain “Black Belt Excellence.” After two months, we noticed significant improvement in the attention he gave to his chores and his schoolwork. After about six months, we started to become aware of the compliments we were regularly receiving about him from friends, his teacher and others we met in passing. Most gratifying still was that we got his school report card and that his grades had gone from good to GREAT! As he has progressed, mastering new forms and earning new belts, his confidence and willingness to try new things has increased in almost direct proportions. He is now very comfortable taking on previously overwhelming assignments and has become inspired to learn about anything and everything that interests him. We are very pleased... and deeply appreciative. We think it is obvious that Karate and, more specifically, your “whole student” approach to teaching martial and “life” arts, has literally changed our entire family’s life, and has set our son on a path about which we are highly encouraged, happy and very proud. We do and will continue to strongly recommend you and your program to any family who wants to support their child in being all they can be in life. Our heartfelt thanks to you and your incredible staff for making such consistently positive and meaningful contributions to our son’s development. We are grateful and honored to have you as a member of our team. If you or any prospective families would like to speak with us about our feelings about and/or experience with you and Bobby Lawrence Karate, please give them our number and encourage them to call. It is the least we could do for you, and for them and their children. Sincerely, George and Cindy Levitt Karate was by far one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my life. It taught me skills that I have used in every aspect of my life. Confidence and leadership skills have helped me in my career and social life. Self-control and concentration have helped me in my personal and family life. Martial arts are a positive addition to anyone’s life and it’s one I will never regret. Heidi Collotzi Mr. Ruano, First, thank you for your program and what you and the instructors have taught Aly, Christian and Michael. It was with great pride Chris and I watched them participate in the tournament today. Aly's self-confidence has taken great leaps! Have a great weekend. Rhea Eggert I wanted to just take a second and thank you for all that you have been doing to help Parker. It really means a lot to our family the great job that you have been doing along with Mr. R. and everyone at the Bobby Lawrence studio to teach him and help him learn to focus and to learn and advance in his journey towards his black belt. Thanks, I started in Karate when I was eight years old with the singular goal of learning to “beat-up” my older brother. I never ended up followed through with that plan but I have experienced life-changing growth both mentally and physically through my participation at Bobby Lawrence Karate. The most immediate of benefit Karate I (and my exasperated parents) experienced was better focus and self-discipline. Before I started Karate I was so hyperactive and had a such a short attention span that I couldn’t even sit through a half-hour television program. I spent most of my time at school day-dreaming and rushed through (or completely skipped) homework assignments using the excuse that they were “too boring”. Studying Karate improved my focus I started paying attention and actually learning in school. My Karate instructors’ lectures about self-discipline motivated me to do my homework thoroughly and consistently. Before taking up Karate I’d been getting average but I got my first perfect report card just a few months after my first Karate lesson. As I grew older, Bobby Lawrence Karate’s emphasis on doing your best and being a good student motivated me to work ahead on of long-term projects and study for tests early without parental prodding. These work habits not only relieved my parents from nagging, but also enabled me to graduate high-school at the top of my class and go on to graduate from a top-tier college with honors. Earning new belts at Karate, competing in tournaments, and just generally improving physically gave more self-confidence. I grew up being more willing to try new things and less intimidated by higher expectations because I had proved to myself in Karate that I could take on challenging goals. As a teenager I became an instructor at the studio which added another dimension to my self-confidence: I became a more effective communicator and public speaker and developed the confidence to approach new people and speak in front of large audiences without fear or self-consciousness. Karate has also afforded me with many physical benefits. When I first enrolled in Karate I was a very energetic, even hyperactive child and the continuous workout and structured classes provided a great outlet for my energy. I’d participated in team sports but they often involved spending lots of time waiting in lines for turns in practice and sitting on the sidelines during games whereas in Karate I got to spend most of my time actually participating! The gains in strength and flexibility I achieved at Karate far surpassed anything I’d been able to achieve in other activities. As an adult Karate has been the major activity that keeps me physically fit and I love it because it’s never boring! Being a student at Bobby Lawrence Karate has had a profound impact on my life and I would highly recommend this studio. Leah Fox
